netElastic & Advantech Announce Partnership on Carrier NFV Solutions

3/10/2018

Virtual Broadband Network Gateway (vBNG) from netElastic Validated on Advantech Intel® Select Solution for NFVI platforms and New Edge Server Series

SANTA CLARA, Calif., and Taipei, Taiwan, October 3, 2018 – netElastic, a leading innovator of NFV software for communication service providers (CoSPs), and Advantech(TWSE:2395) Networks & Communications Group today announced that they have completed the integration of netElastic's vBNG software suite on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware platforms from Advantech offering carrier-grade software scalability across single and dual Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor designs, and across multiple servers.

The combined vBNG solutions deliver market-leading performance and scalability with advanced subscriber management. The platforms incorporate all the capabilities and features of traditional BNGs along with the next-generation flexibility and cost benefits of an innovative virtualized solution.

Today’s hardware-based BNGs lack the scalability needed to keep up with rapidly growing bandwidth demand. The netElastic vBNG solves the cost and scalability issues of hardware-based BNGs while also addressing the performance limitations of software-based BNGs. The netElastic vBNG is built on a high-performance virtual routing platform that was designed and architected for virtualized x86 environments from the start. The control plane and data plane are completely decoupled and independently optimized and run in separate VMs or on completely separate servers allowing each to be scaled independently.

The vBNG software suite has been successfully integrated with Advantech's FWA-6170 high performance network appliance, with porting underway on Advantech's SKY-8201 Carrier Grade server.  Both are fully validated Intel® Select Solution for NFVI platforms.

The netElastic vBNG and vRouter have also been validated on Advantech’s new SKY-8211 Edge Server series designed to replace proprietary routers and gateways with an open programmable off-the-shelf platform entirely based on processors and network interfaces from Intel.  When deployed as a virtual router the combined hardware and software solution provides the functionality of legacy, fixed-function routers with more flexibility and lower cost.

SKY-8211 platforms are ideal for software defined networking deployment and are also based on the highly versatile Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable series enabling high performance control and data plane processing. With multiple front facing ethernet ports connected to a cost optimized planar PCIe board, the short-depth carrier grade platforms eliminate the need for multiple PCIe cards and offers all the physical connectivity advantages of an off-the-shelf enterprise or provider edge router.

“netElastic vBNG delivers massive scalability and market-leading performance with advanced subscriber management at lower price points, said David Williams, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at netElastic. “The combination of netElastic and Advantech provides carriers with a complete vBNG solution with high-performance software and commercial off-the-shelf hardware to eliminate the need for costly, proprietary hardware-based solutions.

“With the explosion in subscriber demand for bandwidth, vBNGs offer CoSPs the ability to easily scale, thereby eliminating the need for large capital outlays with specialized hardware components”. said James Yang, VP Advantech Networks and Communications Group. “Rather than expensive network upgrades, vBNGs offer network operators a “pay as you grow” model, helping CoSPs create a more flexible and scalable network, and reduce the reliance on legacy, proprietary, and customized hardware”.

At SDN NFV World Congress in The Hague, NL on Oct 8-12, attendees will discover how netElastic and Advantech can help CoSPs achieve maximum performance on multiple CPUs through an optimized data plane using DPDK that takes full advantage of Intel network interface controllers and can easily scale across multiple CPUs and servers as demands increase.

The SKY-8211 based solution will be showcased at netElastic’s booth in the SDN NFV World Congress expo area. To book a meeting, please contact us at ncg@advantech.com.
