    Machine Automation
  • Embedded CIM PC in Fabrication
Computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) is a method of manufacturing in which the entire production process is controlled by computer. Typically, it relies on closed-loop control processes, based on real-time input from sensors. It is also known for providing flexible design and manufacturing by allowing areas such as design, analysis, planning, inventory control, and distribution to be linked through the computer with factory floor functions providing direct control and monitoring of all process operations.
  • Decentralized Motion Control in Laser Carving Machines
One customer in taiwan develops variant electronics manufacturing machines. In September 2007 they received a new order for Laser Carving Machines, and wanted to upgrade their existing motion control solution to eliminate the complex system architecture and machine's large dimension size. They had been evaluated our AMAX-2000 series, but were a bit concerned that the connector was different than their current solution. Advantech was willing to modify the design of the AMAX-2000 series for the customer, creating new and unique AMAX-2000 modules.
  • High-Speed Injection Molding Machines
Injection molding machines are used for manufacturing plastic parts, and in recent years many of these machines have begun integrating intelligent features with energy-saving capabilities. Additional functions, such as electronic measurements, calculators, network communications, real-time auto-control, automatic adjust-ments and auto system diagnosis are being integrated as well, improving reliability, control and machine owners’ competitive power in the market.
  • Tone Quality Analysis System
Many industrial applications, such as Environmental and Facility Monitoring Systems, leverage audio to improve performance. One of our clients is a major manufacturer of consumer electronics devices, and they were looking to reduce the cost of their audio quality analysis system. Thus, they turned to Advantech to help them create a simple yet cost-effective solution to improve efficiency and increase production.
  • Portable Thermo Test System
LED flashlights are gaining popularity in the industrial field, not only do they save energy, but they are also lighter and cheaper than their traditional counterparts. One of our clients is a major manufacturer of automotive repair tools, including LED flashlights, and they were looking to reduce the battery requirements in their flashlights down to a one coin cell battery.
  • Mobile Device Test System
Mobile phones have quickly become a necessary tool in our modern-day lives, and they are evolving so quickly that many new technologies are becoming standard features. Not only do these mobile devices allow access to communications anywhere, but also access to information and advanced technology, such as digital cameras, digital video/voice recorder, calendars, email, MP3 players, GPS navigation, and more).
  • LCD Resolution and Pixel Testing System
LCD panels are becoming more popular every year, and can be found in a wide variety of electronic devices such as TV’s, monitors, notebooks, digital cameras, digital video camera recorders, mobile phones, and more. Providing good cost performance ratio and quality are the two most important factors for LCD panel manufacturers, who rely on automated equipment to verify panel resolution, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Peer-to-Peer Functions Applied in LCD Manufacturing
In the growing LCD market, both quality and quantity are in high demand. An Advantech customer in the LCD manufacturing market wanted to increase the quality control and production in their LCD manufacturing, and need to add DI/O wiring to transfer alarm message of LCD production equipment in FAB. The message will be transferred to the monitor center outside for 100-200m. In such a demanding manufacturing process, where there is no downtime and no space for extra wiring, Advantech's solution was to adopt a flexible Ethernet IO infrastructure for an efficient and cost-effective system.
  • LCD Auto Inspect System
LCD's are fragile products, especially during the manufacturing process. Built in clean rooms, the inspection procedure is operated through robot assembly which doesn't require need human operation, but heavily relies on a stable system to reduce the maintenance.
  • Embedded Motion Control in Semiconductor Machinery
Etching is a process used in microfabrication to chemically remove layers from the surface of a wafer during manufacturing. Etching is a critically important process module, and every wafer undergoes many etchings before it is complete. This customer is one of the worldwide leading CVD and etcher builders, and they invest more resources on PC-based technologies to increase their competence. They were very interested to reduce their dimensions on both their mechanisms and electronic control circuits, which is very important for electronics manufacturing machineries, but it's hard to ask the suppliers to provide the best-fit solution for each machine builders.

SUMMARY: In today’s automation applications, it seems there’s no room for dumb machines and there’s plenty of space for intelligent choices. A case in point is distributed motion control, in which intelligence and control are pushed out from a central server to the edges of an automation system. There are some very good, bottom line reasons for doing this, as it can save significant time and money. This white paper addresses making the right choices on distributed motion control that will save you time, effort, and money.
